SHELBURNE RESCUE SQUAD
HISTORY
Shelburne Rescue first started as a team of volunteer first responders (operating as trained Emergency Medical Technicians EMTs, without an ambulance) over twenty years ago. In 1988 the first ambulance was purchased and has since developed into a community volunteer squad of about 47 members with about 30 active menbers responding to approximately 525 emergency calls a year.
WHAT WE DO
We have assigned shifts with at least a three person crew actively on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ready to respond to any emergency. We are a volunteer squad of various people with varying backgrounds.
SHELBURNE RESCUE POSITIONS
Crew Chief: An experienced EMT who oversees and directs each call.
Driver: Is responsible for safely driving the ambulance. Shelburne Rescue will train you for this position.
Third Crew Member: An EMT who works under the direction of the Crew Chief providing direct patient care.
Fourth Crew Member: You start as an observer, train to become an EMT with the goal of becoming a Third.
Emergency medicine is not for everyone, it requires some dedication and commitment. Shelburne Rescue tries to operate with members being on active duty for one 12 hour shift per week and one 24 hour weekend shift per month. We also require members to attend a business meeting (first Tuesday each month) and a training meeting (second Tuesday each meeting).
